We live in an era characterized by globalization, a revolution in information and communication technology (ICT), and the k-economy. For Malaysia to remain competitive in such a world, there must be greater efficiency, higher quality and greater innovation and diversification of products and services.
Employers are looking for people who are not only highly skilled and well qualified, but are able to flexibly acquire, adapt, apply and transfer their knowledge to different contexts and under varying technological conditions, as well as to respond quickly, intelligently, independently and creatively. Malaysian companies need to have people
with these capabilities to compete globally and make breakthroughs in markets around the world. The graduates our universities and colleges produce, says Minister of Higher Education Dato’ Dr Haji Shafie mohd Salleh, should match these workforce requirements. According to the Minister, “University programmes must take into account the training and education needs of graduates in order to prepare them for the knowledge society and enhance their employability in the labour market.”
